Jets REPORT CARD
QUARTERBACKS: C-
Brett Favre (20 of 31, 137 yards, 1 INT, 1 rushing TD) had his second straight stinker, settling for underneath passes, failing on eight of nine third downs.
RUNNING BACKS: C
Thomas Jones (10-56, 1 TD) had 17-yard TD in third quarter but got stopped on a third-and-1 early. Leon Washington had six catches.
WIDE RECEIVERS: F
The 49ers entered game 28th in NFL against pass. Still, they managed to stop Laveranues Coles (1 catch, 10 yards) and Jerricho Cotchery (1-5).
TIGHT ENDS: D
Dustin Keller (2 catches, 14 yards) looked like a rookie. Chris Baker (1 catch, 15 yards) deserves more balls his way.
OFFENSIVE LINE: C
Got pushed around by weak 49er defense. Damien Woody threw a beautiful block on Jones' TD for rare highlight.
DEFENSIVE LINE: D
No pressure at all on Shaun Hill. Run defense suddenly looks lackluster, too. Frank Gore and DeShaun Foster combined for 87 yards on 30 carries.
LINEBACKERS: C
David Harris returned and recorded 13 tackles and half a sack. Bryan Thomas and Calvin Pace failed to get near Hill.
SECONDARY: F
The 49er receivers found wide-open spaces. Rookie Dwight Lowery looks lost, victimized on all three TDs.
SPECIAL TEAMS: C
Washington nearly had another kickoff return for a TD, but it was called back on James Ihedigbo holding call. Wallace Wright also nailed for holding on a return.
KICKING GAME: D
Reggie Hodges compounded a bad decision by coach Eric Mangini to punt on fourth-and-2 by punting into end zone.
COACHING: F
Jets came out flat again. Mangini could have given his team a boost by going for it on the initial fourth down in S.F. territory but he showed no faith again. The 49ers' first TD probably should have been challenged.
