The San Francisco 49ers did not need to spend countless hours scouring the game film from their opening-Sunday defeat to figure out what went wrong.

No, when quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan sat down to watch the film, he saw nothing that he did not already know.

"I don't think there was any new kind of diagnosis as to what happened," O'Sullivan said of the 49ers' 23-13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. "I think it was pretty self-evident."

The 49ers committed five turnovers. They got no takeaways. And that's the ballgame, folks.

The 49ers will have to change their self-destructive ways in order to have any hopes of pulling off the upset Sunday against the four-time NFC West division champion Seattle Seahawks. The 49ers and Seahawks enter the game after less-than-stellar season-opening performances. The Seahawks lost to the Buffalo Bills 34-10.

The 49ers' offense held the ball for only 44 snaps against the Cardinals. During that time, they did manage 291 yards of total offense. Only twice last season did the 49ers have more yards in a game.

But O'Sullivan scoffed at the notion that there were hints from this game of what the 49ers' offense can achieve this season.

"I mean, it doesn't matter what my sense of what we are able to do, it only matters what we are doing," he said. "We have to get better.

These films sessions; what we just went through. You have to immediately learn, figure out exactly what we need to do better and take that immediately to the practice field on Wednesday.

"There is no 'what we are capable of stuff like that'. That (expletive) does not matter. What matters is what we do on Wednesday and what we do this Sunday. We need to get ready to go."

On the other sideline, Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner evaluated the 49ers' offense and made an interesting observation about new offensive coordinator Mike Martz's confidence in running back Frank Gore.

"I know when I was with coach Martz we were always very aggressive," Warner said. "With the Rams, we would throw first and run second. With the 49ers, they have Frank Gore, so they tend to run first and throw second, which should take some of the pressure off of their quarterback.

"There is a certain mentality that coach Martz brings: aggressiveness. I think he (O'Sullivan) will learn that and do well with it. It does take some getting used to."

The 49ers are hoping to show some of that offensive aggressiveness against the Seahawks after mostly sitting around and watching in the second half of their season opener.

"It all starts with coach Martz, and all the details he gives us to make it better," running back Frank Gore said. "It was frustrating coming back out after we went over everything we had to do in the second half. It was so frustrating we couldn't get back out there. The passing game was starting to open up. This week we got to look at our mistakes and move forward and go up to Seattle and beat them."

O'Sullivan said there is plenty to fix, other than just getting back on the field.

"I think there are a lot of things that we need to get better at," he said. "There are details all over the place that we need to hone in on, and understand what we're not doing right and fix it immediately. The turnovers, obviously, jump out at you but it doesn't stop there."

SERIES HISTORY: 19th meeting. Seahawks lead the series 10-8, including victories in both games last season. The Seahawks outscored the 49ers 47-3 in two games a year ago.
