--Coach Mike Singletary declined an opportunity to clarify his comments concerning Matthew Stafford after the Georgia quarterback visited with the 49ers.
Stafford was quoted in Sports Illustrated saying it struck him as odd that a 49ers psychologist told him it appeared as if he had unfinished business concerning his parents' divorce.
"I felt like, 'I wonder how much I'm being charged per hour for this?'" Stafford said. "But I understand. They're going to pay a lot of money in the first round."
When asked about it a couple weeks later during a contentious radio interview on San Francisco's KNBR, Singletary shot back: "If you're looking at drafting a guy in the first round and pay him millions of dollars and asking him about a divorce of his parents, if that's going to be an issue, then -- you know what? -- maybe he doesn't belong here."
--OLB Parys Haralson said he wanted to get a long-term deal done with the 49ers before entering the final year of his contract.
"It was a priority because I'm basically excited about the direction the team is going, and excited about what coach Singletary is doing with the team," Haralson said. "It's about being somewhere you're comfortable."
--The 49ers open the regular season on the road against the Arizona Cardinals. It'll be the fourth consecutive season the teams have opened the season against each other. The Cardinals won two of the previous three openers. The 49ers later have a Monday night game against the Cardinals, and a Thursday nighter against the Chicago Bears.
"Having two prime-time games on national television provides us the opportunity to showcase the 'Mike Singletary' brand of 49ers football that we plan to play," 49ers general manager Scot McCloughan said.
--The 49ers are getting strong participation in their offseason program. The only notable absences have been receiver Isaac Bruce, who works out on his own in St. Louis, and running back Frank Gore, who also trains in Miami, where he is building a home.
The 49ers are expecting 100-percent attendance by the end of the offseason program. The offseason program concludes June 14 for veterans and June 25 for rookies and first-year players.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "Anything can happen on draft day. We're still evaluating and looking for the best athlete available. The quarterback position, we're very thankful to have Shaun Hill and Alex Smith competing for the No. 1 spot. I feel very good about what they're doing" -- 49ers coach Mike Singletary.
