--New 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree at some point along the line acquired a reputation as a "diva." When asked if that was an apt description, Crabtree answered, "No, I'm nowhere near. You know how people like to put receivers in that category? Tell you the truth, everybody is different."
His college coach, Mike Leach, scoffed at the notion.
"Anybody who refers to him as a diva doesn't know him very well," Leach said. "My definition of a diva is somebody that's loud and self-absorbed. Michael Crabtree's the furthest thing from loud that I've ever seen.
"I really think he's a good player and people don't realize the depth and commitment that he has. I can't say enough positive about him."
--The 49ers unveiled their new uniforms Saturday, which bear a striking resemblance to the look they fashioned throughout the team's success of the 1980s. The 49ers replaced their burgundy-red uniforms with cherry red.
"The 49ers won a lot of championships in the old cherry-red uniforms, and we're going to win a lot of championships in the new cherry-red uniforms," 49ers tackle Joe Staley said.
--GM Scot McCloughan categorically shot down rumors that the 49ers had engaged in trade talks to acquire Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn.
"No discussions have ever taken place - ever, ever," McCloughan said.
--When the 49ers selected running back Glen Coffee in the third round, they got a player who grew up in Florida, attended college at Alabama and has never ventured West.
"It'll be interesting," he said. "I've never been out west so I'm looking forward to it. Like I said, it'll be interesting. I'm not going out there to see what San Francisco is like as a city. I'm out there to help the team win. So I'll go out there and see how I like it but whether I like it or not I'm going to do what I've got to do to be a great NFL player."
QUOTE TO NOTE: "When you get great players, sometimes you get a little bit of attitude with them. It has the tendency to throw some people off. I think for us, on the offensive side of the ball, a little swagger is fine with me" - 49ers coach Mike Singletary on Crabtree.
