--The 49ers plan to unveil new uniforms during a draft-day part on April 25. For years, there has been pressure from fans to return to a form of the classic 49ers uniform that the team wore during their successful period in the 1980s and early 1990s.
When asked at the team's first state-of-the-franchise event if the team was going to change back to its more traditional look, chief operating officer Andy Dolich said, "Stay tuned."
The next day, the 49ers issued a statement to announce there would be a uniform change for the upcoming season.
--The 49ers expect to have plenty of cap space to be a player in free agency. The club should have approximately $25 million in money to spend during the signing period. General manager Scot McCloughan said he expects the 49ers to sign anywhere from four to six free agents.
--Coach Mike Singletary said he expects Shaun Hill and Alex Smith to compete for the starting quarterback job. When asked if the quarterbacks will split reps during the spring and training camp, Singletary said, "I'm not sure how we're going to go about doing it. But it's not going to be a long, drawn-out process. We're just going to let them compete for that job. If Alex is back, they're going to compete for that job."
--The 49ers figure to be in the market for a pass-rush presence. The 49ers have gone six consecutive seasons without having a player record 10 or more sacks. Singletary said he hopes some of the team's young players will step up, too.
"We're looking for some guys to make us better. We're still developing some guys," Singletary said. "(We) still have Manny Lawson, who you think can be a pass rusher, or at least effective. (We) got a guy last year in the first round, Kentwan (Balmer). I saw some things with him toward the end of the season that I thought were very positive. I'm excited going forward. But we definitely have to have something there to help solidify that unit, where we can have a consistent pass rush. That's something we do have to address and we will."
QUOTE TO NOTE: "You don't know me very well. I'm not a moral-victory guy" -- 49ers coach Mike Singletary when asked by a fan when the 49ers are going to start winning games instead of settling for moral victories.
