Unhappy fans are watching
A survey released last week found that, on average, unhappy people watch 30 percent more television than happy people. They must have conducted the survey in the Bay Area on Sunday afternoons.

OK, that's harsh after a day that was a lot more entertaining than it could have been. But consider this: The New York Giants and Jets have recorded five-game winning streaks in the same season for only the third time. Ever. The Raiders and 49ers? They've had five-game skunkings in the same season three times in the past five years. And that doesn't even count this season, because the Raiders' magical day ended their longest skid at four.

Another sign of the times: In Philly, they're calling for the jobs of Donovan McNabb and Andy Reid, who have teamed up for five division titles and gone to a Super Bowl. In San Francisco, we're wondering if one victory a month might let Mike Singletary and Shaun Hill keep their jobs.

The Raiders did make for some interesting viewing. The postgame show made for some even more interesting listening. Tom Flores was full of praise that the team didn't disintegrate into "bitching and moaning ... I can't say that?"

"You already did," Greg Papa replied.

n"? "I don't know why he hasn't been playing all season long," 49ers radio man Gary Plummer said, quite correctly, after a Manny Lawson sack. Naturally, Lawson was on the sideline for the next play.

NBC's Andrea Kremer said Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson is having "career mortality issues." Great! He'll be here next season, because the Bay Area is where Football careers go to die.

Fantasy and gambling

1. Terrell Owens got to 199 yards with 12 minutes remaining. With 3 1/2 minutes left, the Cowboys up by 13 points and no earthly reason to throw the ball, he caught a pass to go over 200.

2. Matt Cassel has back-to-back 400-yard games. Tom Brady has one such game, in September 2002.

3. Through three quarters, the Falcons' Michael Turner had a so-so 73 yards and a touchdown. Fourth quarter: 44 yards, three TDs.

4. The Titans and Giants, each 10-1, have zero 300-yard passing games.

5. Rams receiver Torry Holt hasn't scored in three weeks. If he does again this season, it will be a shock.

6. Vegas' wild ride: The Redskins were headed for a late field goal until Ladell Betts fumbled at the Seattle 22 with 1:30 left. Those who had Seattle-plus-3 were relieved; those who got 3.5 were ecstatic.
